Stroke Symptoms

Stroke

Remember the first three (3) letters: STR. Knowing STR can save a life.

Sometimes, symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. The stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now, doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

Goal: Recognized, Diagnose and receive Medical treatment within 3 hours.

    S.T.R

  • SMILE Ask victim to SMILE.
  • TALK Ask victim to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.)
  • RAISE BOTH ARMS Ask victim to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe symptoms to the dispatcher.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other

After discovering that a group of non medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions.
