“not one of us currently living are responsible” for slavery, is the reason why ‘Payments are not the focus of H.R. 40’. McConnell continued, adding: "We've tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a civil war, by passing landmark civil rights legislation. We elected an African-American president.”
Slavery is not the issue, but the abuse levied by those participating in the slave trade.
So, if we knew who they were, then these people still would be punished, just as we intervene when any other innocent people is taken-advantage of.
Is there a statue of limitations for what we did to people like Sadam Husein, Osama Bin Ladin and the list goes on? Why could not we just conveniently forgive them, because not one of us today participated in the atrocities they allegedly committed? Do we conveniently forgive those who participated in the atrocities committed against Native Americans?
Yes, we do, because those who committed those atrocities are still in control and know doing so would seriously jeopardize their power and positions. Why would I feel a sense of obligation to pay or reward anyone I have historically abused? The costs are high and possibly would give them power to over-throw my ass. Why would I give them a stick to beat me with?
Have we properly dealt with our slavery issue? Have we properly dealt with our genocide issue against Native Americans? Do we just think because we are in power all of them just have to deal with the consequences because we cannot change history?
Why would we want to change history? If we have not changed, what does this mean? Do we have the courage to admit, confess, in order to bring about change? Do we really want change? Why does anyone really give-a-damn, because we have never properly dealt with these situations, yet feel compelled to punish others?
Is slavery big business, is slavery still alive? Slavery is nothing new, will always exist, but like I said, it is how you treat your slaves, which determines if you have committed a crime.
In regards to The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, Africans are more responsible than the people we choose to blame.
