Love Is a Hurting Thing

Love is like a cactus... beautiful but painful when handled carelessly.
Does anyone want to be hurt in life? Unfortunately, for some reason, we always hurt the ones we love.
Isn’t it strange how the ones we love get hurt by us and suffer with inner pain and then some may suffer physical illness. The sad thing is we don’t even realize we are hurting those we love. What is even more peculiar to me is when complete strangers are treated better than the ones we hold so dear in our hearts.
I wonder why we treat our loved ones so haphazardly. It makes no sense and so many families have disagreements and arguments, and they become distant from each other for years. But we will have a disagreement with a stranger and apologize. The difference is we think we can get away with such hurting in our families’ lives and with the stranger we seem to hash it out and end it.
I've often heard people say that “love is blinding”. Does that mean when we love someone we become blind to their feelings or do we lose respect and think we can do or say anything? Is this a sick “comfort zone”?
Do we really understand and know how to love? Who taught us how to love? Does the ability to love come naturally or is it a learned behavior? If it is a behavior that is taught, then in some instances we need to fire the teacher!
Love is not a hurting thing when it is given and received unconditionally. Real love brings joy and sometimes pain but the pain is short lived. Forgiveness and the ability to sincerely say “I’m sorry” are the antidotes for pain.
