ChristiansAre HypocritesIt is true and we know it. We “all” fall short. Christians often say what people should and should not do but, they do not practice what they preach. Do as I say and not as I do. Jesus dealt with this problem. Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keep the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?" The Pharisees claimed to be morally and intellectually superior. They believed they could please God and earn His favor through “their own righteous works”. Jesus points out herein is a little problem - THEY WANTED TO KILL HIM! Is that not breaking the Law? They denied this charge from Jesus. The people answered "You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?" Jesus, using strong reasoning and logic, shows their hypocrisy for what it is. Jesus pointed out you worked on the Sabbath by circumcising a man and it was okay. I worked on the Sabbath, by healing a man and you saw that as wrong. Did you also not break the law? Is this not a double standard? Circumcision was allowed on the Sabbath but healing was not. Why circumcision is not "work" but healing is "work"? What a hypocrisy! Circumcision is the mutilation of the flesh, and happened on the Sabbath. Jesus pointed out He made a man completely well on the Sabbath, but was condemned. The Pharisees made up their own laws and elevated those laws to the status of God's Laws. Jesus said, "No way!" Hypocrisy is still prevalent in the Church and always will be. As a result, when unbelievers look at our lives they see hypocrites. They boldly ask, "Why should I trust you Christians?! You all are a bunch of hypocrites!" Good question. You're right, I am a hypocrite. Please do not judge whether Christianity is true or false based on my actions. Judge whether it is true or false based on fulfilled prophecy, the eyewitnesses to Jesus' resurrection. Christians can not fulfill the perfect Law of God. That is why we need forgiveness and a Savior. Have you been mistreated by a Christian? Has someone hated you in the name of Jesus? Has some such experience left a bad taste in your mouth for Christianity? May I encourage you to look past the unloving attitude and hypocrisy of broken Christians? Look to Christ and the truth He speaks. Do not judge a worldview or belief system based on the behavior of the followers who are imperfect. That is putting faith in man. |
