Baby boomers were told to work hard and when you retire life would be easy! You will be able to do whatever your heart desires…true or false?
Are you really happy with your lifestyle today? After working for thirty plus years are you happy with your current lifestyle or do you just exist from day to day? A lot of my friends have already retired or they are thinking about retiring in the next few years. I listen to their conversations and they go something like this… “I’m on a fixed income so I have to monitor what I can do.” or “I’m taking this medication or that medication.” Is this what I have to look forward to when I retire?
As a baby boomer, I wonder if the dream has been deferred or somebody lied…
• The cost of property has gone so high that our children can't afford to buy their own houses consequently many of us still have the kids with us.
• Our parents are growing old and needing our support.
• The pension's paying out less than it promised, the savings aren't even keeping pace with inflation.
What happened to the need for adventure, the desire to do something different? When we reach a certain age or we are afraid to venture out into new water? Do we become complacent and decide to just wait on death?
Instead of getting stuck in a rut, I challenge you to think about starting your own business, be more active or just keep moving forward. Stay inquisitive about life and remember you can still make a difference.
The baby boomer generation is now facing the biggest challenge of all – how to retire and do the things we’ve dreamed about over the past 30 plus years!
