Mayflower and Puritan Influence on Americans 2011Mayflower and Puritans Influence on Americans of todayAre the Spells of the Puritans still upon us? I ask myself, was the attitude and behaviors of America’s Founding Fathers good for all people or created out selfishness to benefit their own selfish wants? Realizing the honest answer to that question and all the band aids used to patch gaping holes, why do we keep defending the violent acts and abuse of our ancestors - individualism? Do you ever wonder why we have so many problems in our relationships with stress and depression? Do you wonder why we are so hell-bent on recognizing the differences in each, than what we are in recognizing our common attributes? Well, I have to believe the spell of them Mayflower people and Puritans have a lot to do with why we find differences more attractive than we find what we have in common. I will start with our ability to socialize with people of differences and individualism? Then, I will end with our social aspects and our desires to be monogamous? Being that humans are very social beings, why do we impose monogamous relationships upon ourselves? Why have we removed the strong influence of our elders from our relationship decision making process? Knowing we excluded the strong influence of our ancestors because we knew how wrong they were, why not include their input, as we have now educated them? In other words, now that we have learned different, why not act different and now that we are acting different, why not amend our laws, rules and regulations to support our new behaviors? Does that not make sense? Why does being monogamous create so much pressure, confusion and chaos? Why does the part of us desiring monogamous relationships force our desires and beliefs upon those desiring polygamous relationships? Why have we given polygamy such a bad rap? What is the difference between having multiple partners over time, than having multiple partners at the same time? Will we continue to be plagued by lying, stealing, killing and cheating, based upon fear and ignorance? The Influence of the Mayflower and Puritans in America? The immigration of the Pilgrims to America occurred in stages and the Puritans was one of those stages. The Puritans was recapitulating an unnecessary, corrupt, and even idolatrous order; pressured by having to relocate in order to execute. Hence, a plan which included the betrayal of the indigenous people of America was created and the indigenous people became their target. There would be no compromise, consequently the indigenous people of America were subdued and over time, this individualism approach evolved into the democracy we act as if we enjoy today, in the name of God. At Thanksgiving, why do we keep renewing solemn commitments, atrocities and other acts of betrayal made more than 100 years ago? This act alone illustrates apparent ignorance of America and Americans today. Remember, the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade has yet to be included in this equation! Today, are our churches reformed or purified any more than yesterday? Is the Bible, the final authority on anything worthwhile today? No they are not and if anything have become more hypocritical. Why is that? Because they were built upon double standards, which were and still are in direct conflict of their very own Biblical principles. They interpreted and adopted Biblical principles to benefit their own evil desires. Using common sense, why would any Puritan, betray the very people who embraced them? Why would any Puritan abuse the rights of the very women they allegedly admired, loved and respected? Why would any Puritan view themselves as superior and all others as inferior? Why would a Puritan commit to burning a woman at the stake because “it was believed” she was cheating? Why would you classify her as a Witch? That’s to what I am referring when I elude to "still being under the spell of the Mayflower people and Puritans of yesterday". That is why our society and economy has come to this great point of weakness today. That is why, if we do not rationalize and revolutionize, we will meet the same cruel and brutal fate, inflicted by our ancestors of yesterday and today, and justifiably so…Amen Isn't it time for a New Testament, (New Laws) or is that we are not wise enough to see anything? "Brother-in-law Duty" Sound familiar? Matthew 22:24 "Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. Deuteronomy 25:5 Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother." Deuteronomy 25:5 If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband's brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her. Deuteronomy 25:6 The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel. Ruth 4:5 Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the land from Naomi and from Ruth the Moabitess, you acquire the dead man's widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property." * Genesis 19:31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth.
