home of the world’s largest institutions, is that America?

The Art of Social Change, people with developmental disabilities

What do they know about voices?

Our financial strategy has been to increase local grassroots donations and decrease our dependence on government support. our financial strategy has been to increase local grassroots donations and decrease our dependence on government support. For this we are truly grateful.

The Art of Social Change has been a journey through relationships, discovering gifts, and the awe filled beauty they display, challenging the system, maintaining fidelity and discovering each other, people whose lives are diminished because of prejudice.

Citizen advocacy is about bringing the needs and interests of a person to the attention of the community. The community will respond to those needs through a freely given, usually long lasting relationship.

Few people around the state believed that could happen in the home of one of the world’s largest institutions. The thinking was that people in Milledgeville would think that institutions take care of the needs and interests of people with disabilities, and that no one would think that personal relationships were needed. Citizen advocacy disproved that thinking.

People reduced in voice are reduced in credibility or capacity, and ordinary citizens are needed to voice or advocate. Personal relationships are needed by us all.
